Unveiling Elegance: The 2024 Aston Martin DB12 Roars into the Future With Style and Power

The new 2024 Aston Martin DB12 elevator pitch is “A supercar wrapped in velvet,” this latest launch marks the famed British marque’s 110th anniversary. While many other car manufacturers are moving towards electric powertrains, Aston Martin is one of just a handful of brands that continue to embrace the excitement of the gas-powered V8 engine.

Where it all Began

Aston Martin Lagonda Global Holdings PLC is a British manufacturer of luxury sports cars and grand tourers. Its predecessor was founded in 1913 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford but has been steered from 1947 by David Brown. It became associated with expensive grand touring cars in the 1950s and 1960s, and with the fictional character James Bond following his use of a DB5 model in the 1964 film Goldfinger.

While the DB12 may not look very different from its predecessor the DB11 from the outside, there are some serious upgrades to the interior and powertrain, giving this bombastic sports tourer even more character.

Slightly New Look for the Exterior

The 2024 DB12 is still undeniably an Aston Martin, however, there are a few small changes that have been made to its outward appearance:

It has:

• A wider track
• A larger, reshaped grille giving it a more aggressive look and improved cooling
• New LED headlights with stylish signature daytime running lights sweeping back over the fenders
• The latest version of the Aston Martin wings badge

Other noteworthy elements are the forward-leaning grille, long hood, sharply-raked windshield, and a roofline that smoothly flows to the rear of the car. A muscular look is further enhanced by the bulging rear fenders that look great when you view them in the rearview mirror. To complete the performance look, the DB12 comes complete with 21-inch wheels. 

Available Models

Only a single trim line is currently available, but a convertible version and higher-performance variants are expected to be added to the lineup. The standard feature list is quite inclusive and includes:

• Soft leather-trimmed sport seats
• Alcantara headliner
• 21-inch wheels
• Integrated 10.25-inch display for its new and improved infotainment system

Aston Marin DB12 owners will have the opportunity to customize their purchase and there are many ways they can do it. Buyers can choose from over 50 exterior colors including multiple carbon fiber exterior packages. 

There are multiple wheel options, various brake caliper colors, and more color choices for the interior. As well as different primary and secondary trim colors there are different seat styles and even more carbon fiber trim options. 

The GT also offers a custom luggage option and the possibility of an Aston Martin Pet Package.

The Luxurious Inner Space

Open the driver's door and your senses are immediately caressed by the wonderful aroma of leather coming from the hand-stitched Bridge of Weir hides that trim the door panels and seats. 

There are two seating options: comfort seat or sports seat which are stiffer but have increased support for those enthusiastic driving sessions. The positioning of the seats is controlled from a rather unusual center console position.

You may not be overly impressed by the amount of storage space inside the DB12 but you will find space for smaller items such as a shallow bin for a phone or wallet. There’s also a wireless charger sitting below the main controls and gear selector.

The trunk space is equally limited, but then most owners are not going to be using their car for their weekly grocery store shop. There’s enough space for a few overnight bags for a weekend in the country, but that’s about all.  

Rear Passenger Space

While the DB12 has beautiful rear seats they’re of little use when it comes to actual sitting. Aston Martin might call the car a four-seater, but if the front seats are in a comfortable position, it leaves almost zero legroom in the back. It might work for short distances, but it’s a much better idea to consider the rear space as a stylish storage shelf. 

Infotainment

When it comes down to the infotainment system, the DB12 introduces next-generation technology that has been designed and developed in-house. It features a 10.25-inch high-resolution touchscreen integrated with the dashboard. 

Quick access to vehicle settings, audio, and navigation is possible using the shortcuts on the left side of the screen. 

The system is very user-friendly and one feature you’re certain to appreciate is smart climate control selections. You can set these to produce a warm cabin, cool cabin, warm feet, or warm hands.

Also included are wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

What’s Going on Under the Hood?

You’re going to find a 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 671 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. The power from the engine is sent to the rear wheels via a carbon fiber prop shaft connected to a rear-mounted 8-speed automatic transmission. 

Compared to the DB11 there has been a considerable bump up in horsepower and torque and you can expect to reach 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The top speed is 202 mph. 

Braking Power

With such an impressive top speed it’s important to know that the brakes are up to the job. It’s no surprise that Aston Martin has chosen to fit grooved and drilled cast-iron disc brakes that are 400 mm in the front and 360 mm at the rear. 

For increased braking performance and reduced fade at higher temperatures, there is the option of fitting Carbon Ceramic Brakes. 

Impressive Performance Reports

The Aston Martin DB12 has been tested in many different conditions by a variety of drivers and found to be very impressive in terms of performance. Thanks to the powerful V8 engine there is impressive acceleration from a stop or when already cruising at highway speeds. 

The steering is very responsive and delivers excellent feedback. The DB12 performs equally well when pushed hard in the corners, managing to stay flat and table.

If you find yourself driving in wet conditions the Wet Mode is one of the multiple drive modes you’ll be pleased with. The level of stability and confidence this rear-wheel car delivers in the rain is impressive.

Are There Any Downsides?

There aren’t very many but we’d be remiss not to mention that the new GT can be challenging to maneuver in tight spaces. While it’s not a large vehicle, it does have a larger-than-expected turning circle which means parking it does take some planning.
